Ship Of Theseus
Posted on December 13, 2012 | No CommentsA fantastic debut by Anand Gandhi that takes a three-tiered look into the "Ship of Theseus" philosophy. -
The Thieves (Dodookdeul)
Posted on December 13, 2012 | No CommentsThis is a movie to be enjoyed with a tub of popcorn on a weekend at the cinemas, not at a Film Festival. -
Detroit Unleaded
Posted on December 13, 2012 | No CommentsThe film, specifically its humour, will work well for the ethnic culture it caters to. For others, watch it if you want to experience a funny take on a different culture -
Wadjda
Posted on December 13, 2012 | No CommentsFor a country that has no cinemas and a nonexistent film industry, Wadjda is a monumental achievement of accomplished storytelling and craft. -
The Great Kilapy
Posted on December 12, 2012 | No CommentsThe Great Kilapy is a film full of political intrigue featuring an apolitical central character. Set during the 60’s at a time of great civil unrest in Angola, which was then under Portuguese colonial rule, director Zézé Gamboa skilfully captures and portrays the climate of the time in a film that is engaging and revelatory. -
Lesson of Evil
Posted on December 12, 2012 | No CommentsLesson of Evil is a relentless, remorseless look at pure evil. It is so brutally violent, it numbs you into submission and you are unsure how you should react to it. There is little joy in watching the film but it stands as a unique testament to enfant terrible director Takashi Miike’s crazy view of the world. -
Here and There (Aquí y Allá)
Posted on December 12, 2012 | No CommentsHere and There is episodic and distant – it serves the purpose of a documentary, but by being a work of fiction. -
Cloud Atlas
Posted on December 12, 2012 | No CommentsThe movie gets confusing before things start to make sense, but the reward of experiencing it whole is cinematic wonder. -
Hyde Park on Hudson
Posted on December 12, 2012 | No CommentsBill Murray makes this movie barely watchable, where the King and Queen can’t stop discussing Hot Dogs! -
A Few Hours of Spring (Quelques Heures De Printemps)
Posted on December 12, 2012 | No CommentsAside from the performances of the two lead actors, there is not much to admire here.
