Out This Week: 08 June 2017

Tom Cruise beckons you back into the world of Monsters. And other releases this weekend.

Another Ramadan weekend, another big summer release; the reboot of The Mummy. That and some other smaller films, so keep reading.

The Mummy

Directed by: Alex Kurtzman
With: Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, and Russell Crowe
What is it about? An ancient princess is awakened from her crypt beneath the desert, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.
Heads Up: Despite the failure of 2014’s Dracula Untold, Universal Studio is hoping to use this film to jumpstart their Dark Universe; a monster mash interconnected horror films universe, and it heavily relies on the success of The Mummy. The trailer promises silly over the top fun combined with… horror! So I am hoping this will live up to that, and if Tom Cruise can’t sell this film, I don’t know who else could?

Churchill

Directed by: Jonathan Teplitzky
With:  Brian Cox, Miranda Richardson, and John Slattery
What is it about? A ticking-clock thriller following Winston Churchill in the 96 hours before D-Day.
Heads Up: Despite having a superb slate of seasoned actors in the leading roles, the film has been panned by critics for its muddled and unsuccessful approach to a great real life story. I’d say don’t bother.

The Bleeder

Directed by: Philippe Falardeau
With: Liev Schreiber, Elisabeth Moss, Naomi Watts, and Ron Perlman
What is it about? A drama inspired by the life of heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner.
Heads Up: This biopic boxing film about the real-life inspiration for Rocky, and with such wonderful cast, I think it’s worth a consideration.

 A Beautiful Planet – IMAX

Directed by: Toni Myers
With: Jennifer Lawrence, and Terry Virts
What is it about? An exploration of Earth and beyond as seen from the International Space Station. Narrated by Jennifer Lawrence.
Heads Up: A documentary film for all the family on IMAX? I am in!!

Raabta

Directed by: Dinesh Vijan
With: Sushant Singh, Rajput, Kriti Sanon, and Jim Sarbh
What is it about? In 2017, Shiv and Saira fall for each other and form an inseparable connection. Until, Saira crosses paths with a reincarnated lover from a previous lifetime who is determined to make her his lover again.
Heads Up: This love triangle romance has a promising look and premise, but trailer took us on whirlwind trip from a sweet love story to a murderous thriller, so I am a little confused and a little intrigued.
