Out This Week: 30 June 2016

Last weekend of Ramadan is a virtual shut-out.

This is the last weekend of Ramadan. There are not any major releases, just a few small films from Hollywood and beyond. Let’s check them out

Elvis & Nixon

Elvis and Nixon Poster

Directed by: Liza Johnson
With: Michael Shannon, Kevin Spacey and Alex Pettyfer
What is it about? The untold true story behind the meeting between Elvis Presley, the King of Rock ‘n Roll, and President Richard Nixon, resulting in this revealing, yet humorous moment immortalized in the most requested photograph from the National Archives.
Heads Up: The film features two great leads and the reviews are very good. That said, I think there is no need to rush and watch it in cinema. You can just wait till it’s available for rental.

Rabid Dogs

Rabid Dogs Poster

Directed by: Éric Hannezo
With: Lambert Wilson, Virginie Ledoyen, and Guillaume Gouix
What is it about? After a bank job goes badly wrong, three desperate criminals take a young woman and a father and child hostage – it’s the beginning of a frantic and violent road trip that not all of them will survive.
Heads Up: This French thriller looks pulpy and action-packed, and its available reviews are mostly positive. This might be fun to watch on the big screen.

Intruder

Intruder Poster

Directed by: Travis Zariwny
With: Luise Linton, Justin Ament, Steven Beckingham and Teresa Decher
What is it about? During one of Oregon’s most violent storms, a young cellist seeks solitude and comfort in the safety of her large apartment, but soon realizes she might not be home alone.
Heads Up: It looks generic and poorly made and acted. I’d say avoid!

Ghosthunters

Ghosthunters Poster

Directed by: Tobi Baumann
With:  Milo Parker, Anke Engelke, and Bastian Pastewka
What is it about? An unlikely trio of allies against the supernatural: a little boy who scares at everything, a professional ghost hunter, and the slimy spirit Hugo. Together they take on the ghouls that threaten to send their town into an ice age.
Heads Up: A kids comedy from Germany. Reviews are terrible, so I’d say just wait till next week for better offerings.
