Out This Week: 22 November 2018

Critically acclaimed adult drama-thriller, or critically acclaimed Disney animation? Choices, choices!

There is more than one film that gets our seal of approval this weekend. Keep reading to find out!

Widows

Directed by: Steve McQueen
With: Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki, Colin Farrell, and Liam Neeson,
What is it about? Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities, take fate into their own hands, and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.
Heads Up? Steve McQueen the director of Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave is tackling a heist genre film, co-written with Gillian Flynn (writer of Gone Girl). The film has some of the strongest reviews of the year and an amazing cast. The trailer is one of the best I have seen all year, so this film gets my highest recommendation.

Ralph Breaks the Internet

Directed by: Phil Johnston, Rich Moore
With: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Gal Gadot, and Taraji P. Henson
What is it about? 6 years ago Wreck-it-Ralph was one of the biggest success story for Disney’s Animation comeback. The sequel it seems is even more admired by the critics, so I think having to choose between two strong releases is a good problem to have.

Robin Hood

Directed by: Otto Bathurst
With: Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx, Ben Mendelsohn, Eve Hewson, and Jamie Dornan
What is it about? A war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown in a thrilling action-adventure packed with gritty battlefield exploits, mind-blowing fight choreography, and a timeless romance.
Heads Up? The story of Robin Hood is one that has been adapted to the the big and small screen many times to variant degrees of success. However, this version, which is more of an action buddy comedy, is being brutally attacked by critics as a poor attempt to modernize the story with action sequences and effects.

Nobody’s Fool

Directed by: Tyler Perry
With: Tika Sumpter, Tiffany Haddish, Omari Hardwick, and Whoopi Goldberg
What is it about? A woman is released from prison and reunites with her sister. She soon discovers that her sister is in an online relationship with a man who may not be what he seems.
Heads Up? The latest Tyler Perry film was savaged by critics (as usual) and did not exactly set the box-office on fire. I am a bit curious to see it, but not enough to recommend seeing it on big screen.
