Out This Week: 10 December 2015

In case if you are not attending the Dubai International Film Festival...

This is the week of DIFF (Dubai International Film Festival) so understandably, there will not be that many big new releases. That said, there’s a Pixar film plus a few smaller titles, so if you are not planning on checking out DIFF, this weekend certainly has some diverse and somewhat interesting choices at the movies.

 The Good Dinosaur

The Good Dinosaur

Directed by: Peter Sohn
With: Jeffrey Wright, Frances McDormand, Steve Zahn, and Anna Paquin
Heads up: An epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend. Our critic Faizan Rashid reviewed this and gave it only 2.5 stars. In his review he wrote: “The Good Dinosaur isn’t terrible or plain bad; it’s just not very good. Knowing this, perhaps “The Average Dinosaur” might have been a more fitting title for it.“. That said, if you have young ones, there is not really anything else out there to take them to, so just keep your own expectations in check.

Howl

Howl Poster

Directed by: Paul Hyett
With: Elliot Cowan, Rosie Day, and Calvin Dean
Heads up: When passengers on a train are attacked by a creature, they must band together in order to survive until morning. This is a little British film about a night of horror in a confined space, and the Brits certainly know how to make those effectively. I’d say check it out if you are a horror fan.

Hyena Road

Hyena Road Poster

Directed by: Paul Gross
With: Rossif Sutherland, Paul Gross, and Clark Johnson
Heads up: Three different men, three different worlds, three different wars – all stand at the intersection of modern warfare – a murky world of fluid morality where all is not as it seems. This Canadian film has garnered mostly positive reviews praising its realistic views on war. It might be interesting to see a Canadian point of view on the subject.

Larry Gaye: Renegade Male Flight Attendant

Larry Gaye Poster

Directed by: Sam Friedlander
With: Mark Feuerstein, Danny Pudi, Jayma Mays, and Stanley Tucci
Heads up: A self-anointed ‘renegade’ male flight attendant must save the day when the airline he works for tries to eliminate flight attendants as a cost-cutting measure. This is going for Airplane vibes minus everything that made Airplane a classic. Avoid!!!
