Adam Sandler doing a serious role is always contentious especially when the movie is about a magical heirloom which allows him to step into the lives of his customers via their boots. Yes you read that right, he wears his customers boots and Sandler turns into the customer.
We would be ridiculing this movie more if it wasn’t for the director/writer Thomas McCarthy behind it. He did the excellent The Station Agent (breakout role for Peter Dinklage) and Win Win which was warm, funny and captured the family relationships and dynamics very well. We hope that McCarthy can replicate that with The Cobbler especially since the support cast is pretty strong with Dustin Hoffman, Steve Buscemi and Dan Stevens helping out.
