Who else would dare challenge Star Wars reign this weekend other than Bhai? Keep reading to know more.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Directed by: J. J. Abrams
With: Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Ian McDiarmid
What is it about: The gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to rescue one of their own, the players will have to brave parts unknown from arid deserts to snowy mountains, to escape the world’s most dangerous game.
Heads Up: The 9th and last episode of the Skywalker Saga in the Star Wars Universe is a bittersweet event. after Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we are excited to see how J.J. Abrams concludes the beloved series, and if we go by the trailer, he has quite a few tricks up his sleeve. If you are a fan of the series, then you must see this one in the biggest screen available and hopefully with a great crowd.
Dabangg 3
Directed by: Prabhu Deva
With: Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sudeep, and Arbaaz Khan
What is it about: The happy-go-lucky, but fearless inspector, Chulbul Pandey, returns once again to go face-to-face with Balli Singh, a criminal whose antics annoy, and have disrupted many people’s lives.
Heads Up: The third film in the phenomenally successful action comedy series Dabangg. If you are a fan of Bhai, then you already have your ticket, and there is nothing I can say here that would change your mind either way, and the box-office results for the previous two films is the biggest proof of that. Taken as a pure masala entertainment, this might be a fun time at the movies.
Bombshell
Directed by: Jay Roach
With: Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, and John Lithgow
What is it about: A group of women decide to take on Fox News head Roger Ailes and the toxic atmosphere he presided over at the network.
Heads Up: Director Jay Roach is trying to recapture the magic he had with TV’s Recount and Game Change but on big screen this time around. The playful trailer promises a thrilling dramedy and it is all based on a real scandal. Theron, Kidman, and Robbie are in the mix for all the major awards, so even though the reviews are not glowing, this is one that should be on our to-do lists.
I See You
Directed by: Adam Randall
With: Helen Hunt, Jon Tenney, and Judah Lewis
What is it about: Strange occurrences plague a small town detective and his family as he investigates the disappearance of a young boy.
Heads Up: This horror thriller has some decent reviews, and the critical consensus is that “it gets tripped up on its own narrative contortions, but a solid cast and an effective blend of scares and suspense make this slow-building mystery worth watching“. So if you have time, it is a counter-programming to the Star Wars of it all.
Into the Ashes
Directed by: Aaron Harvey
With: Luke Grimes, Robert Taylor, James Badge Dale, and Frank Grillo
What is it about: Nick escapes his criminal past and 2 partners, gets a steady job, a friend at work and marries the sheriff’s daughter. But his past catches up with him, when his ex partners track him down and want their share of the loot.
Heads Up: This crime drama is not doing it for me after seeing the trailer and reading the reviews. I’d say skip it.
Thambi
Directed by: Jeethu Joseph
With: Karthi, Jyotika, and Sathyaraj
What is it about: An orphan who takes on the identity of a missing person, years after he has gone missing realises that there are deep dark secrets that the “ideal” family is hiding.
Heads Up: This Tamil language action thriller starring A-list stars of Tamil cinema, and directed by Malayalam renowned director Jeethu Joseph who directed successful films in Malayalam and Tamil cinema besides Bollywood. This is a film about an imposter who implants himself in rich family’s life as their long lost son. It’s an intriguing premise, so if you are a fan of the genre, you might wanna give it a shot.
