An Adam Sandler starred-Chris Columbus directed action comedy, a prestigious Cannes Festival winner, an exorcism horror, a romantic comedy, and a cheesy Sci-Fi B-movie!

Happy belated Eid everyone. Our weekly roundup article for the latest releases in cinemas is back. Summer is still young, and we have some major film down the pipe in the next few weeks, so stay tuned. This week we have an Adam Sandler starred-Chris Columbus directed action comedy, a prestigious Cannes Festival winner, an exorcism horror, a romantic comedy, and a cheesy Sci-Fi B-movie. So let’s roll:

 Directed by: Chris Columbus
With: Adam Sandler, Kevin, James, Michelle Monaghan, and Peter Dinklage

Heads Up: When aliens misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth as PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. On paper, this sounds very cool, but the problem is that neither Adam Sandler nor Chris Columbus has much credibility left from all the bad movies they made. Still our own Lloyd Bayer found some enjoyment in this film. In his review, he wrote: “It’s the same reason why most of the amusement comes from the supporting cast. Even as they deliver with acceptable comic timing, the real fun is in racing back to the days of Atari or annihilating monsters at the gaming arcade.”

Masaan

Directed by: Neeraj Ghaywan
With: Richa Chadda, Saurabh Chadhary, and Sanjay Mishra

Heads Up: This double prize winner at the Cannes Festival tells the story of four lives that intersect along the Ganges: a low caste boy hopelessly in love, a daughter ridden with guilt of a sexual encounter ending in a tragedy, a hapless father with fading morality, and a spirited child yearning for a family, all long to escape the moral constructs of a small-town. It is a must see for cinephiles!

 The Vatican Tapes

Directed by: Mark Neveldine
With: Olivia Taylor Dudley, Michael Peña, Dougray Scott, and Djimon Hounsou

Heads Up: The story of a priest and two Vatican exorcists who must do battle with an ancient satanic force to save the soul of a young woman. Despite the ever so tired premise, the stellar cast is intriguing, and the stylish director as well.

How to Make Love Like an Englishman
How-To-Make-Love-Like-An-Englishman
Directed by: Tom Vaughn
With: Pierce Brosnan, Salma Hayek, Jessica Alba, and Malcolm McDowell

Heads Up: An English Professor by day, a womanizer by night, Richard Haig has to face the music when his much younger American girlfriend tells him that she is pregnant. Great cast and good premise, and for that we are mildly curious.

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

Directed by: Anthony C. Ferrante
With: Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, David Hasselhoff, and Frankie Muniz

Heads Up: A monstrous tornado unleashes ravenous sharks from Washington, D.C., all the way down to Orlando, Florida. If I am to pick a film of the week, this will be it! A total cheeseball B-movie that is gonna be a hoot. Gather all your friends and go watch this stupid film. I guarantee a good time.
