This weekend is exciting because we have film by the Coen Brothers. We also have the first comic book film of the year, an acclaimed Oscar nominated drama, and a Bollywood thriller based on true story. I must say, this weekend have very strong releases across the board, so this weekend you should go out to the movies to catch a film or four.
Hail, Cesar!
Directed by: Ethan Coen, Joel Coen
With: Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, and Ralph Fiennes
Heads up: Hail Caesar! Follows a day in the life of Eddie Mannix, a Hollywood fixer for Capitol Pictures in the 1950s, who cleans up and solves problems for big names and stars in the industry. But when studio star Baird Whitlock disappears, Mannix has to deal with more than just the fix. For me any Coens film is must see, they are just that good. The reviews are strong, and the cast is stellar. What’s not to recommend?
Deadpool
Directed by: Tim Miller
With: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, and T.J. Miller
Heads up: A former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopting the alter ego Deadpool. Already shattering box-office records, this might be the break that Ryan Reynolds need to make it big finally. Reviews are very strong too, so I am really looking forward to watch this, and so should you.
45 Years
Directed by: Andrew Haigh
With: Charlotte Rampling, Tom Courtenay, and Geraldine James
Heads up: A married couple preparing to celebrate their wedding anniversary receive shattering news that promises to forever change the course of their lives. For cinephiles, this Oscar nominated drama is must-see. Unfortunately, it’s gonna be shown in just a handful of screens across the nation, and for sure it will not stick around for long, so make sure to see it ASAP if you are planning to.
Neerja
Directed by: Ram Madhvani
With: Sonam Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, and Shekhar Ravjiani
Heads up: The story of the courageous Neerja Bhanot, a flight attendant who sacrificed her life while protecting the lives of 359 passengers on the Pan Am flight 73 in 1986 after terrorists hijacked it. This is a magnificent story of a young woman’s courage and sacrifice that is needed to be told. Early word of mouth is very encouraging, so I am gonna recommend it.
