This week the highly anticipated Harry Potter prequel is upon us, but if J.K. Rowling‘s fantasy is not your thing, don’t worry, there are also many other offerings this weekend, and I will try to sum them up for you, so keep reading.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Directed by: David Yates
With: Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Jon Voight, and Colin Farrell
What is it about? The adventures of writer Newt Scamander in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards seventy years before Harry Potter reads his book in school.
Heads Up: Director David Yates who made the last 4 Harry Potter films is returning to the world of wizards and muggles created by that J.K. Rowling built to become one of the most creatively and commercially successful pop culture phenomenal of all time. Reviews are very positive and the buzz is high. This is one of the most anticipated films of the year, and of course it needs to be seen in cinema.
Bleed for This
Directed by: Ben Younger
With: Miles Teller, Aaron Eckhart, Katey Sagal, Ciarán Hinds and Ted Levine
What is it about? The inspirational story of World Champion Boxer Vinny Pazienza who, after a near fatal car crash, which left him not knowing if he’d ever walk again, made one of sports most incredible comebacks.
Heads Up: This film looks very intriguing and Miles Teller is becoming one of the hottest and brightest actors of his generation. I am sold.
A Street Cat Named Bob
Directed by: Roger Spottiswoode
With: Luke Treadaway, Bob the Cat, Ruta Gedmintas, and Joanne Froggatt
What is it about? Based on the international best selling book. The true feel good story of how James Bowen, a busker and recovering drug addict, had his life transformed when he met a stray ginger cat.
Heads Up: This looks heartwarming and cute. The trailer is very cheesy, but that is how they have to get you sometimes. As a cat lover, I am gonna watch it for sure. If you are in a cheery holiday mood, go for it.
The Good Neighbor
Directed by: Kasra Farahani
With: James Caan, Logan Miller, and Keir Gilchrist
What is it about? A pair of mischievous high school kids create the illusion of a haunting on an unsuspecting neighbor. While keeping his every reaction under surveillance, they see much more than they bargained for.
Heads Up: This is the second time this year after Don’t Breathe that we get a horror/thriller about a seemingly helpless victim who turns the table on his trespassers and turns out to be the bad guy after all. Reviews for this one though is terrible, but I am intrigued by the premise.
Force 2
Directed by: Abhinay Deo
With: John Abraham, Sonakshi Sinha, and Tahir Raj Bhasin
What is it about? Force 2, brings back ACP Yashvardhan who teams up RAW Agent KK to bring down a master mind terrorist Shiv.
Heads Up: Another sequel from Bollywood. Another seemingly by-the-numbers action movie. Since his absolute dismal Game, director Abhinay Deo has made Delhi Belly and the TV series 24 (official Indian adaptation), so there is promise in the movie. I’d say, watch it for your Bollywood fix.
