Enjoy Black Panther this Valentine weekend!

It’s Valentine Day weekend and there are plenty of new releases to choose from, but a certain MCU film is the MVP of the weekend.

Black Panther

Directed by: Ryan Coogler
With: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Martin Freeman, and Lupita Nyong’o
What is it about? T’Challa, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.
Heads Up: From the acclaimed director of Fruitvale Station and Creed, comes the latest MCU film which is wowing the critics, including ours. Faizan Rashid was most enamored with it, and in his  4½ stars review he wrote “Such is the majesty of its storytelling and the power of its craft that it singlehandedly elevates the potential of what the genre is capable of”. Lloyd Bayer was less enthusiastic but he still liked it. In his 3 stars review he wrote: “For a film set mostly in the African savannahs, one can be forgiven for alluding to the thought that this is The Lion King all over again, only this time Simba is a human with a fancy suit that can do some nifty tricks“.

All I see is You

Directed by: Marc Forster
With: Blake Lively, Jason Clarke, and Ahna O’Reilly
What is it about? A blind woman’s relationship with her husband changes when she regains her sight and discovers disturbing details about themselves.
Heads Up: Director Marc Forster’s track record (Monster’s Ball, Finding Nederland, Quantum of Solace, World War Z) has some hits and misses. This one it seems belong to the latter category. I say catch it at home if you must.

Rupture

Directed by: Steven Shainberg
With: Noomi Rapace, Michael Chiklis, and Kerry Bishé
What is it about? A single mom tries to break free from a mysterious organization that has abducted her.
Heads Up: Apparently this horror film is “derivative and clumsily assembled, it manages the tricky feat of making arachnophobia seem dull”. Definitely avoid!

Early Man

Directed by: Nick Park
With:  Tom Hiddleston, Maisie Williams, and Eddie Redmayne
What is it about? Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of Dug, along with sidekick Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City to save their home.
Heads Up: From the director of some of the most famous Stop Motion Animation films like Chicken Run and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, comes this charming looking film that surely will entertain the whole family. I know I am taking mine to watch it, and so should you.
