Ramadan Kareem everyone. This weekend we will have the typical Ramadan releases of small films. A French romcom, an independent “dramedy”, and a Bollywood thriller.
Un Homme à la Hauteur
Directed by: Laurent Tirard
With: Jean Dujardin, Virginie Efira, and Cédric Kahn
What is it about? Diane, a divorced lawyer, loses her mobile telephone and receives a call from the person who finds it. That person is Alexandre, a charming man and the perfect gentleman, so they make a connection. A slight problem though, he is a very short man, and now Diane has to overcome the prejudices of society and her own fears to experience the best time of her life.
Heads Up: Alexandre is played by Jean Dujardin (The Artist, OSS 117: Le Caire, nid d’espions) who is one of the most charming stars working today, and the trailer looks funny, so if you are in the mood for watching a film in cinema this weekend, this might be it.
Welcome to Me
Directed by: Shira Piven
With: Kristen Wiig, James Marsden, and Linda Cardellini
What is it about? When Alice Klieg wins the Mega-Millions lottery, she immediately quits her psychiatric meds and buys her own talk show.
Heads Up: Considering that the film has been screened in cinemas more than a year ago, and that it will be surely censored for adult content, I’d avoid watching it in cinema, and maybe seek it out on home viewing if you are interested.
TE3N
Directed by: Ribhu Dasgupta
With: Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Vidya Balan
What is it about? A grandfather, police officer and a priest join hands to investigate and find a missing child.
Heads Up: This looks like a well made thriller, albeit with a familiar plot, and a strong cast. I would say, why not, but be aware that the film seems very grim and its theme of kidnapped children is a heavy one.
