Another week, another killer clown movie coming our way, but is it in the only game in town this time around? Keep reading to know more.
Joker
Directed by: Todd Phillips
With: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy
What is it about: A gritty character study of Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded by society.
Heads Up: One of the most anticipated and divisive films of the year. The winner of the Golden Lion at Venice International Film Festival is not received as enthusiastically in the US its home country, mainly for the fear of it enticing violence. The reviews are still mostly positive, and you can count our own Lloyd Bayer as a huge fan. In his ★★★★1/2 review he wrote: “Unconcerned with any or all previous versions of the titular character, Joker will leave you with an overwhelming sense of empathy for a person just trying to fit in. If you don’t see it that way, the joke’s on you“. This is gonna be dark, gritty, and not for the faint of heart, so buckle up.
War
Directed by: Siddharth Anand
With: Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, Vaani Kapoor, and Anupriya Goenka
What is it about: The film follows an Indian soldier who is assigned to eliminate his former mentor, who had gone rogue.
Heads Up: War is a film about two movie stars who like to take off their shirts a lot. Also there are plenty of explosions and action scenes that are left off Mission Impossible and James Bond films. If that’s your jam, then go for it.
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy
Directed by: Surrender Reddy
With: Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara, Tamannaah, Sudeep, and Amitabh Bachchan
What is it about: A biographical action epic based on the life of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who revolted against the atrocities of East India Company 10 years before the Sepoy Mutiny.
Heads Up: This Telugu historical drama (which is also being released in Hindi and Tamil) has been marred by controversy disputing the accuracy of its events. I’d say check out the trailer and see if this one for you or not. I did and it’s not for me.
A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon
Directed by: Will Becher, Richard Phelan
With: Justin Fletcher, Joe Sugg, and John Sparkes
What is it about: When an alien with amazing powers crash-lands near Mossy Bottom Farm, Shaun the Sheep goes on a mission to shepherd the intergalactic visitor home before a sinister organization can capture her.
Heads Up: This is the second feature film of the beloved children TV series. The charming little stop-motion animation is a spin-off yet another beloved children series which is Wallace and Gromit, so even if it’s a children film, I think it’s gonna entertain their parents as well.
