February is upon us, and awards season films are still trickling on our screens. We also have some new releases, but we only have one Must-See film this weekend, so keep reading.
Phantom Thread
Directed by: Paul Thomas Anderson
With: Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, and Lesley Manville
What is it about? Set in 1950’s London, Reynolds Woodcock is a renowned dressmaker whose fastidious life is disrupted by a young, strong-willed woman, Alma, who becomes his muse and lover.
Heads Up: The latest film from acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, The Master) is nominated for 6 Oscars and is the last performance by the amazing Daniel Day-Lewis who announced his retirement from acting. So you should definitely see it, without any doubts.
Den of Thieves
Directed by: Christian Gudegast
With: Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber, and O’Shea Jackson Jr.
What is it about? A gritty crime saga which follows the lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank.
Heads Up: This heist film is a middling success in the US Box office with lukewarm critical reception. Keep your expectations low, and you jusy might enjoy it with a rowdy bunch.
Proud Mary
Directed by: Babak Najafi
With: Taraji P. Henson, Billy Brown, and Jahi Di’Allo Winston
What is it about? A hit woman working for an organized crime family in Boston, whose life is completely turned around when she meets a young boy whose path she crosses when a professional hit goes bad.
Heads Up: This film is supposed to be “indifferently assembled“, but almost everyone who has watched it agrees that it is a big waste of Taraji P. Henson‘s potential. Avoid!
Day of the Dead: Bloodline
Directed by: Hèctor Hernández Vicens
With: Sophie Skelton, Johnathon Schaech, Jeff Gum
What is it about? A small group of military personnel and survivalists dwell in an underground bunker as they seek to find a cure in a world overrun by zombies.
Heads Up: This remake of George A. Romero‘s cult classic is panned by all critics. I’d sit this one out as well.
